Pennant Park Golf Club Player Reports

This golf course is quite simply.....Perfect. I have been trying to think of negatives but even tho the clubhouse extension was being worked on, i can't. The layout is spectacular, every single hole is challenging in itself (but at the same time an absolute joy to play). If there is only one course that you play this year make it this one. You will not be disappointed. You can also obtain a 2 for 1 voucher from the Pennant Park Website so it isn't that expensive.
The 14th is one of the best holes that i think is out there, seriously. I could of quite easily just tee'd off there all day, supplying my own balls (which alot of them i probably would of lost) and not felt bored at any time.
I think i'll be visiting this place alot over the summer, make sure you try it out.

This is quite simply the best all round golf course I have ever played.
To get the bad bits out of the way first (although this amounts to some serious knit-picking), the course is quite remote, (although the signage issue has now been sorted thank god), there is no pro shop and if you want to really enjoy it, take a buggy (cheap for a tenner - lots available) or the last few holes will take it out of you.
If you go after 4 in the summer you get twilight rates, which for £12, is absolutely outstanding value. I have paid over £60 for rounds on courses inferior to Pennant in the past.
Every hole is in superb condition and has character, and its own little challenges. The views from the 12th and 14th tees across the Mersey Estuary are (for someone who doesn't really 'do' views) incredible, especially more so now with the turbines out at sea, whilst the 14th itself is simply a joy to play. Try to resist the temptation to smash more than a few balls just for the sheer satisfaction of it though!
The surroundings couldn't be nicer (lots of tame rabbits about!), the staff couldn't be friendlier, the clubhouse is superb and the value couldn't be better. A true hidden gem.

This is a gem of a course tucked away in the Welsh countryside. We played as a small society (9) on a warm Sunday afternoon and had a great day out.
We were greeted on arrival by a friendly receptionist in the fabulous, modern clubhouse, and then proceeded to the first tee. The opener is a tough uphill par 5 with a blind tee shot and out of bounds down the left, a hole which can ruin your score very early on! Then a series of challenging par 4's await you to the turn, were the par 3 9th will take you over the road back toward the clubhouse.
The back 9 features some of the finest holes in Wales - the view from the 12th tee is worth the trip alone. The course then works it's way back to the clubhouse where a well earned pint or two awaits.
The meal after the round was good - a sunday roast, following by apple pie & custard served by another friendly member of staff - make sure you sit out on the terrace if it's a nice day.
Holes to look out for -
6th - Challenging long par 3 over a stream with a difficult bowel shaped green - birdies must be few and far between
11th - Tough sharp dogleg right, all uphill - will reward the gamble over the out of bounds to the right if negotiated.
12th - Downhill short par 4 to a flat green - drives must be accurate if going for it so a lay up is best if confidence is lacking.
14th - One of the finest golf holes I've ever played - get your driver out the bag and let rip!! The fairway slopes downward severly from the tee, your second shot to a difficult green surrounded by trees to the right.
17th - short downhill par 4 with a pond in front of the green - another one that can ruin your score if not negotiated properly!!
All in all a fantastic course, the only minor negative points are its quite remote and thus difficult to find and there's no pro shop only a reception which includes a bar. I'm sure however in time to come that'll change.
Highly recommended.

Lovely Course, Front 9 is quite flat compared to the back 9 which offers some lovely views. Greens and fairways all well kept and no complaints about the course or value for money.
Club House has been updated over last few years and is now a decent size with reasonable prices on food and drink.
One of the best courses in the area by far and tempting me to take up membership as we speak!

As usual the course was in superb condition, the front 9 is relaxing ( not boring )the back is the best 9 holes of golf i've ever played the views are spectacular the holes are all different some lead you into false sense of length (13 & 15)but you will enjoy it I promise. Be sure to visit the website before you go as there is a printable voucher 2 play for £28 an absolute snip for a course of this standard.

I played Pennant Park in July 2003 - the front nine is quite boring but the back nine is alot better. The food is expensive in the small club house and the service could be improved!! Only go if you live nearby!!
