Stilton Oaks Golf Club Player Reports

I have been playing Stilton for about six months now returning to golf after a 20 year layoff .
When you look at the scorecard the course looks short and relativly easy, but ignore the long rought at your peril. As most people who play it know it falls into two different 9 hole courses .The first nine are short and flat with enough water involved to keep it interesting(8 par 4's 1 par 3).The second nine combine hills and water with great views(2 par 5's,6 par 4's and 1 par 3).
The whole course is very tight, benifitting the straight hitter, with only a few grassy bunkers(and the rough of course). There are a few hedges that come into play around the course with the "do I try to hit over them or go for the gap in them" scenario.Long hitters will be able to drive some of the par 4's .The clubhouse is adequate having a small shop and toilets (but if you want to play golf not socialise afterwards this is your type of course !!!)
Overall this is a very new course that is a MUST to play offering great value for money as well as a challenge to golfers of all handicaps.

Excellent value for money - £14 a round, but a club that could have been much more.
Sure it was wet the day before, but large parts were very boggy. The general maintenance was poor. Muddy paths, domed shaped tees, weedy greens with little differentiation with the surroundings and generally in poor nick. All the bunkers bar one were grassed over - apparently too much trouble. Very much a farm conversion course.
Shame really since there was plenty of potential. Several lakes come into play - nasty one on the 9th, plus a 'do or die' on the 6th? Back nine take you up on the hill with the best views for miles. The final green is elevated in front of the club house (sic) and a quirky challenge. Ease of location just off the A1 is great for a quick round.
A bit spent here could make the world of difference. I bet on a summers day it is excellent when the grass has just been cut.
Will probably pass by another time.

In my opinion this course was short, wide open, dull, boring, and in poor condition. The walk from the 2nd tee to the 3rd green is not marked, you have to guess which path to take. There is a bridge which takes you from the 15th green to the 18th tee which is completely unnecessary. The 9th green was all chewed up. The rest of the greens were very slow and bumpy. The course is called "Stilton Oaks" yet I did not see one oak tree on the entire property. I will not be back.

Enjoyed the course. Very friendly, excellent for beginners - good value for money.

Hi,
This is probably the best course that I have ever played. Mant times I have watched the masters/open on TV and I am sure that one day it will arrive here. Please express my sincere thanks to the groundsman that has done such a good job.

I've played this course 3 times. At the moment, it's condition is quite good considering the very dry weather we've had. The traps are a bit stoney, but luckily I've not been in too many so far! Make sure you get out on the front 9 with a good score, because it gets much tougher on the way in. Watch out for the 17th par 5 - the fairway slopes hugely from right to left and is intersected by hedge which seems a long way off, but is reachable because of the downhill tee shot.
All in all, it's good fun until you get in the strategically placed VERY heavy rough!
