Woodspring Golf and Country Club Player Reports

I started playing woodspring about 7 years ago. It had poor drainage, a depressing amount of long rough and the greens were not in a good state.

Since then it has obviously had a lot of money spent on it - the course hasn't been greatly redesigned but the drainage has improved hugely, the rough cut back to more sensible proportions and aside from the odd poor fairway, is in excellent nick.

For £14 weekday and £16 weekends I think it is an excellent course.

Played on the Avon and Brunel courses last week must say how very impressed I was with the condition of the greens. I believe Woodspring is part of The Gloucestershire Golf Group and since the last time I played Woodspring, everything has greatly improved. The other bonus I found out on my visit was that you can join the Fairway scheme and I only paid £14.00 for my round. What excellant value and will certainly return.

There are three nines at Woodspring, all of which are evidently fairly new in terms of golf course construction.

At one stage or other, I've played all 27 holes here and, while it's nothing special, there are some interesting holes which will keep you on your toes.

Unfortunately, in between, there is a fair proportion of weak and/or bland holes.

A couple of other points:- on the downside, the course drains extremely badly and should be avoided during the winter months. However, on the upside, the view over Bristol from one of the Par 3s on the Brunel 9 (I think) is exceptional. There's also a decent enough driving range; however, the putting green was in appalling condition when we last visited.
