Ive just got back from Selsdon Park and found the course to be a real challenge and one of the best courses I have ever played. Yes the rough was deep, but this just made the challenge greater.
The course is very hilly and does require a lot of stamina, especially for the 60 yr old I was playing with. I would suggest a buggy for the older golfer.

Me and a friend played Selsdon I believe a few days after the Europro event in August 2008. The course was a fantastic challenge and like many before have mentioned the rough is brutal. You have to hit fairways other wise you risk the chance of losing several golf balls. The course requires you to think about every shot and with many of the greens elevated your accuracy to the Pin needs to be spot on. The greens were quick and the fairways are undulated and lush. A very hilly course which is why a buggy was needed on the second day (Book one in advance to avoid disappointment). A super challenge for many a golfer. Avoid the course if you lack confidence. Good Luck!

I played selsdon on a sunny monday a week or so ago and I have to say that Selsdon Park golf course is an incredible and true challenge of golf. One of the best, if not the, best course I have ever played, deffinately the best course in the south east.
It is a real players course with stunningly shaped fairways, superb bunkers, that are reminisent of links courses, and an abundance of very, very interesting holes.
If you are a golfer then you will enjoy this course. The rough is deep, but obviously delliberately so from the standard of the rest of the course, i.e. the fairways and greens are lush as can be. The rough is not just left to grow out of a lack of love.
The gents in the pro shop were just that, gents. Really looked after me and my party and really added to the charm of the day.
Will be playing selsdon again and again in the future.

Selsdon Park are hosting a Europro Tour event in August and are in the process of toughening up the course - this basically equates to letting the rough grow unchecked. I played there last weekend and to say that the rough was brutal would be an understatement. In most places it was at least a foot deep and in some places it was over two feet deep. Any drive which did not find the fairway was invariably lost, as was any shot which missed the green either long or to the side. If you were lucky enough to find your ball, your only option was to hack back to the fairway or towards the green. Unless you are laser straight you will need to take plenty of balls.
On the plus side, there are a number of good holes, lots of elevation changes and in its current set up the course presents a real challenge. The greens were woolly and quite slow but this was expected due to the poor recent weather.
One big negative on the day was the pro shop. On the hottest day of the year so far, we were unable to hire trolleys (reserved for other players later in the day), or a buggy (run out) or buy any bottled drinks (run out at 10am on a Sunday morning!!) from the pro shop. The only drinks available were cans of coke (£1) which are not much use when you've opened them. To add insult to injury, there is no water available anywhere on the course, nor a halfway hut.
I'll visit Selsdon again, but not until after the Europro event when the course should be in immaculate condition. Hopefully the pro shop will have got their act together by then as well.

Selson Park is a very well conditioned course. Even in the second week of December, all greens were in play and were in superb condition. The tee's are all level and the signage is good too.
The course , at 6400 yards + is long. Make that very long, especially in the winter when the tempreature is below freezing ! The fairways simply have to be found as the rough is very penal.
The bunkers were well maintained. However i do feel there were not enough bunkers on the fairways that would effect your tee-shot.
With it being a par 73 you have to be a long hitter. There are four par 5's of which most are three-shotters. There are two par 4's on the back nine which are under 300 yards, one of which i feel should be made into a par 3.
The practice facilities were more than adequate and all the staff were friendly.
Be prepared to be out there a while, especially if you are a higher (18+) handicapper. The course is hilly and it can take it out of you. I would imagine its extremelly hard work in the height of summer.
All in all avery nice, but very tough course.
Make sure you take your A game !
Only down-side id the lack of road signage. I came from Edenbridge, via Titsey Hill and Warlingham and didn't see any signs.

I stopped playing Selsdon over 5 years ago as the condition became unbearable.
I watched a europro event on Sky sports held at Selsdon and listened to what Chris Baron the GM had to say about forth coming plans and improvements for the course.
So I went down and played the course.
The greens and fairways were immaculate and the rough punishing. I play off 12 and found every fairway on the front nine and scored well. On the back nine I only hit 30% of the fairways and scored badly. Which is how a course should play.
After I spoke with Chris, re continued improvements and money being spent on the course and have decided to join. previously being a member at chart hills.
The deal at present is astonishingly good value and if Chris does just half the continued work he says he is going to, the course will be a real stunner.
If your looking to join a new course then I would highly recommend you go down take a look at the current improvements speak with the guys there and make your decision it really is a no brainer!
