Kingswood Golf Club Player Reports
Michael Evans (England) 04/08/08
Played this course on and off for the last ten years , there seems to have been redevelopment work going on for most of that time however I re visited last week 28th July 2008 and can report that things are seriously taking shape. The new clubhouse an driving range will soon be available the first six holes are now looking a lot better the seventh still has some maturing to do but is getting there as long as you keep to the left hand side , eight has not really changed apart from the new raised tee. ninth has still to have its new green opened. Ten and eleven are still the same as before , twelth looks like it may have a new tee once the earthmovers have gone whilst the thirteenth and the short fouteenth are excellent fifteen and sixteen are the same apart from the landscaping whilst the seventeenth has been extended. Eighteen is much the same but shorter at the moment new to new green maturing. It is at the moment still very playable yet challenging and excellent value for money at £8 midweek. Given another couple of years for the ongoing works to be completed and maturing of the mounds it has potential to be an excellent course , I just hope the green fees dont increase too much.

Visited on 05 may 2008, 7am. Very much in the process of creating new course. Very good still with 18 holes still playable.Slightly waterlogged but a very challenging course, many water hazards. Will look great in a couple of years, new bar and driving range complete before end of year. Absolute pinch at £9 for 18 holes. Excellent day and friendly staff. Wayne, gaz etc

Paul Cockerham (England) 28/12/06
Played 28th Dec 06.
Course seriously water logged, fairways saturated and most of the tees and paths were mudbaths, although strangely the greens were still firm and running OK.
The course still has the appearance of a building site (the previous reporter wasnt being unkind with the comment of "Gaza strip"). Many of the holes have or are being been altered with new mounding, but the score cards & tee panels still have the old yardages!! - on the 17th, you now play to a new green at around 140yds - the tee panel still states 106yds for the old green!!.
The owners must have spent a fortune moving earth around to make the course more interesting, but still dont appear to have invested in any irrigation for the greens - this is a major problem in summer as the greens get rock hard, some holes even lack basic 150yard markers, which on a course with so may dog-legs is very poor.
Whilst the course will look the part in a couple of years time, unless the basics are sorted, this will never be the course it should or could be.
Despite the criticisms, £8.50 for 18 holes midweek is decent value, and the pro is a real gent.

here's everything you need to know about Kingswood:
Green Fee's £8.50
Buggies £10.00
Dress code - None
Visitors welcome
booking not necessary as its a pay and play course.
Beware though, this is a course that is still in the progress of being constructed. Mounds of earth and earth moving equipment everywhere. The 5th hole is nicknamed "the gaza strip" by the locals, and its a good name as there is no fairway as such. just bulldozed earth.
It looks as though sometime in the future there will be at least too cracking holes that are going to tee you off over lakes. ( these too are still being constructed )
If you are serious about your golf then Kingswood at the present is not for you. However, the course does have 18 holes and they are playable, and i found it interesting walking round a course and seeing it being created. For the sakes of eight quid, i will be playing the course in about 6 months time just to check on its progress.
I think this will one day be a cracker of a course, but thats quite a way in the future.
one thing that did irk me though was, as we were about to start the back nine a seven ball ( no thats not a mis print ) jumped straight in front of us, and proceeded to hack their way through the fairways. If kingswood are going to allow this to happen, i doubt they will ever appeal to the more serious golfer.
